Let’s start out with the disclaimer: this is a work in progress. We have no idea where we’re going with this. We have some fuzzy concept of a vision for this blog. But we’re going to be learning as we go, and you’ll probably watch us face-plant a time or two on the way.
Who we are:
For those who don’t know, the Clan of AwesomePants came into being on December 30, 2015 in Las Vegas. Devin and Jessica went on their first date in January of 2015. It was love at…well, not first sight, or first deep intense discussion about how awful World War I was (it was all Jess could talk about on their first date), but it was certainly a match made in adventurous traveling and eating heaven! After a secret engagement in the fall of 2015, Devin and Jessica threw a surprise wedding for family and a few friends in Las Vegas on December 30, 2015. Eschewing everything about the trappings of a traditional ceremony, the following exchange was had with the officiant:
Officiant: So, maybe you haven’t decided this, but are you going to take Devin’s last name? I can just announce you as Mr. and Mrs. Miles after the ceremony, you don’t have to decide right now. Jess: Oh it’s been decided. You can announce us as Mr. and Mrs. AwesomePants.
At the end of the ceremony (set to the music of Jurassic Park, in a giant ferris wheel high above the lights of Las Vegas), after the “I do”s and the kiss, Jessica and Devin were introduced as Mr. and Mrs. AwesomePants, and the Clan of AwesomePants was born!
Why we’re doing this:
We wanted to create this space to do a few things:
(1) catalog our adventures for friends and family; (2) provide practical advice that we’ve learned the hard way for anyone considering taking the same trips we’ve taken; and, mostly importantly (3) keep a record of our adventures and our life together. We’re probably also going to post about politics, handy sites and tips we use in the planning process, Ginger our magical dog, and whatever else is on our mind. We make no promises about where this all is headed!
The backlog:
We’ll be gradually catching up on entries for trips we’ve already taken in the first 18 months of marriage, and a few items from before we were married. The goal will be to have at least one entry per month, unless the month is just so darn busy that it takes more entries to cover everything (or, alternatively, we have so much time on our hands that we can write daily entries about our dog or the weather). In addition to these items, we’ve done a few fun events that we’ll add our thoughts and experiences on, such as our Chase Inside Access dinner at Rose’s Luxury (amaaaaaazing!), Night of the Living Zoo, and other fun times.
Here are the list of trips we’ve already taken, and which we’ll be adding entries for:
October 2015: Charlottesville, where Devin proposed.
November 2015: Cancun, where Jessica counter proposed to Devin!
December 2015: Los Angeles, Death Valley, and Las Vegas. Also THE WEDDING. Because of course there will be an entry on the wedding!
2016
January 2016: Denver and Steamboat Springs
February 2016: Atlanta
March 2016: Miami
April 2016: Charlotte. We’ll also do an entry on our local wedding reception – a casino night during the DC Cherry Blossom Festival.
May 2016: Pittsburgh
June 2016: No flights – whaaaat?! I’m sure we’ll find something to talk about for this month.
July 2016: the Bahamas
August 2016: Albany and Lake Placid
September 2016: Chicago
October 2016: Oahu
November 2016: Ooooohhhhh man! The honeymoon! You can see the write up done by Million Mile Secrets, if you’re just too excited to wait for whenever I can describe our six country adventure.
December 2016: Los Angeles
January 2017: Paris! Our magical first anniversary trip!
February 2017: Another doozy! Qatar, South Africa, Zambia/Zimbabwe, and all the amazing animals!
March 2017:
April 2017: Minneapolis, but just Jess
May 2017: Austin/San Antonio. Then also Steamboat Springs and Denver. Then also Pittsburgh. Whew! Busy month. And that brings us up to today!
